Hi Susan, I can certainly remember the horrific story about Nicola.
I did 1987 early on in my research, in a time when I was focused mainly on buildings in Skegness, but I am revisiting all the years as time allows. I will look for the Nicola Spencer story on Monday and upload it asap.

I find this website and its articles very interesting but cant fail to notice the absence of any reference to the murder of Nicola Spencer in 1987 on Grovsner Road, a little girl from the junior school who was strangled in her own bed aged around 8. Any chance of an article on this as I would like to know more only being very young when the murder happened. Thank you

Howard, just had a look in 1883 Herald and there's lots of coverage about the boat accident. It will take me a while to transcribe! I will photograph them now and if you email me, I'll send the cuttings by return. angelagooch@btinternet.com

I'm having some doubts as to the location of No30! Right at the top of the street part pic, you can see houses going across the top. Look at the map, I think these houses are the ones on Daresbury Ave to the extreme right of the map. Transporting myself back in time I feel that the distance to these houses at the top of the road corresponds with what I saw when I walked out of Aunties house. Perhaps No 30 was on the right hand section.

Good news, Ed - found a decent copy of pic which I will send by return if you email angelagooch@btinternet.com
Great Aunt Ada lived at number 30 Lichford Road which I'm almost certain is the block I marked with a red dot (from what I can remember as a little girl) I would think number 27 was almost opposite, counting the houses along from the right. Not sure which part of the road the street party photo was taken as it was a long road extending off to the left.
Again I'm guessing but these council houses were perhaps built in the 30s?
If I know the name we are looking for on Lichford Rd on 1901 census I would be able to find it as I know the area pretty well. Browsing the Sheffield census hoping to find it would take ages as it's a huge city!
More names I remember - Truelove and Brears.

Hi Ed - how pleased I am that you found this pic. Though the original was mine, I have since (foolishly) given it away!!! I will look into my archives to see if I've a better copy without logo to send you.
I know only one person's name in the pic - Dorothy Howson who is a child sitting at the table.
My great aunt, Ada Webster nee Whitaker lived on Lichford Road but I can't remember the number as yet. Other names I remember are Bonnet and Macnulty.
Leave it with me a short while and I'll dig a little deeper. Was your Gran's name Taylor? Is that the name we're looking for on the 1901 census?
Back shortly...

Hello,

I am researching the family history and in my search this 'night/morning' I attempted to locate info via the 1901 census re 27 Lichford Road Arbouthorne, which was my Grandad and Granma's home (mum's family).
Having no luck I typed the addy into Google and lo and behold, here is a site mentioning the very street....not only that, but upon closer inspection of your street party 'photo I got a large shock, as I am 99* sure that my Mum, Mildred Taylor, was the lady at the rear of the group, 2cnd to the right (looking at the picture) of the lady in the black dress! I cannot determine if my Gran is there as It has been over 40 years since I saw any of my UK family. I am in Australia and a short time after I arrived here, my belongings were stolen and amongst these things were family photographs.

May I copy the picture as I may be able to clear up the image and as my grandparents virtually brought me up( I moved in with them several times) the street is very dear to me.

HA! What a whopper of a shock; I still can't get over it; -need a good cuppa.

Warm regards
