Woodward Boy Gets £100,000 Birthday Present

Written by Angela Gooch on Monday, May 5th, 2008 in Human Interest, People, Tourist Attractions.

ALEX GETS 100,000 BIRTHDAY PRESENT

This is one train that arrived on time!
Alexander Woodward has been given a special present by his parents for his third birthday — a £100,000 train set.
To receive a train set is for many boys a dream come true, even in this age of hi-tech computerised toys. But at this price this is no ordinary train layout.
It comes with an engine and five carriages, and runs through the landscaped setting of a theme park — and Alexander can ride on it.
Alex is the only son of Mr John Woodward the owner of the Magical World of Fantasy Island, Ingoldmells.
Mr Woodward said: “Alex really likes trains. We saw this one at an exhibition in Italy and decided to buy it for his birthday.
“We have installed it at the park in a specially created landscape where Alex can ride it whenever he visits the park. The train is computer controlled.”
Alex’s older sister Ellie, five, also has her own ride at the park, a carousel with her name on one of the horses.
The train was handed over to Alex on Sunday.
In picture this is one birthday Alex Woodward, three, is likely to remember, as he receives his £100,000 present, the Safari Train, from his father John Woodward, owner of the Magical World of Fantasy Island, Ingoldmells.

Lincolshire Wildlife Trust Minibeast Safari Tower Gardens

Written by Angela Gooch on Tuesday, April 29th, 2008 in Deaths, Nature, Tourist Attractions.

Tower Gardens is the venue for many events in Skegness. Today the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust was holding a Minibeast Safari.

The aim of the event, organised by the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve Team, was to increase children’s awareness of the natural environment.

There were many activities arranged for the children. The most popular nature activity was searching for minibeasts in trays containing piles of undergrowth, leaves etc.

The chilldren found various specimens including woodlice, centipedes…

…and worms! This wriggly little specimen, seconds after this photograph was taken, dropped from the little boy’s hand and went down his sleeve!.

The boy, quite unperturbed (as we would all be wouldn’t we??), calmly pulled it out again.

Activities inside the marquee included painting and drawing pictures of minibeasts…

…and making models. This mum and dad were helping their children make a snail and a squirrel.

Then the time came for the Minibeast Safari to begin.

Kim Hudson, the Safari leader, firstly briefed the children of any possible hazzards they were to watch out for, like stinging nettles, litter, etc.

Then off the children and their parents went, around the Tower Gardens to search for their minibeasts!

Skegness Pier celebrated its 125th anniversary today. And what an absolutely fabulous day it was!

Built in 1881, the pier was reduced to its present length by storms and flood in 1978. Over half a million pounds has been spent on refurbishing the pier by its present owners. It’s one of the leading entertainment centres in Great Britain, having over one million visitors each year.

The Mayor of Skegness, Coun Phil Kemp, officially opened the newly refurbished pier on its 125th anniversary. Coun Kemp said that he was a little disappointed that he wasn’t asked to open the pier originally, but he was pleased to be there today. He said everyone was sorry that the scheduled fly past of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire fighter plane had to be canceled due to adverse weather conditions at RAF Coningsby.

The Mayor is pictured below with his wife, Lynda Kemp, Mayoress of Skegness, Billy Brewer, mascot of Batemans Beer, Dino the Dinosaur, mascot of Skegness Pier and Salty the Seal, mascot of the Skegness Standard newspaper.
