Co-Op Extension
EXTENSIONS now being carried out on the Cooperative Society building on Lumley Road, Skegness, will eventually make the store the largest in the town.
Last year the old property on the east side of the store was purchased by the greater Nottingham Cooperative Society, and building began to make the store twice its original size.
The project involves not only the new extension but considerable alterations within the existing building.
For example, a new passenger and goods lift will be installed, a new heating a ventilation system and new staff facilities.
There will be a new main staircase and passenger lift on the eastern end of the building. On the diagonally opposite corner it will be necessary to install a new emergency escape staircase to meet fire safety regulations.
The total extension will add 17,000 square feet to the store and when it is finished it will be the largest store in Skegness.
This is the second time in seven years that the store has been extended.
