DEATH OF CAPTAIN SAMUEL MOODY
An old resident of Winthorpe passed away last week in the person of Capt., Samuel Moody, at Jasmine House Roman Bank, Winthorpe.

He had reached the advanced age of 78, and had been for upwards of 40 years a master mariner, and was for nearly 20 years in the employ of Messrs. Thompson, shipowners, Hull.
The deceased was the holder of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution silver medal and parchment. It was presented to him for an act of bravery when a member of the Skegness lifeboat crew, on the 5th day of December, 1875 when during a gale from the East, and heavy sea, he gallantly plunged into the sea from the lifeboat alongside the stranded barge, “The Star of Colchester,” and saving the master of the vessel, who while endeavouring to save the lifeboat had fallen into the sea.
The funeral took place on Monday at Winthorpe Church a number of relatives and sympathetic friends being present.
