Tower Theatre Opening Night
OPENING OF THE TOWER THEATRE
The Tower Theatre, which had its opening night on Monday, attracted a large number of persons, and both houses were well filled, whilst the blaze of light on the front was the admiration of thousands. In one of the best positions in the town, the white terra cotta front present a pleasing view, which makes it stand out from among its surroundings. Mr. Fred Clements must be congratulated upon building one of the finest theatres and picture palace within a distance of a
hundred miles, and Skegness is fortunate to have so imposing a structure.
With a seating capacity of over 700 on the ground floor, which: measures 67 feet by 60 feet, and with a lofty roof, together with the latest scientific, system of ventilation it is most copmmodious. The stage is 60 fleet by 32 feet, the front of which is a huge array of red geraniums growing in pots.
Lighted throughout with electric light, the subdued toned rays are very pleasing to the eye, whilst the decorations are of a most beautiful character. Designed by the well-known theatre architects, Messrs. Tugwell and Son, of Scarborough and London, the building is an example of the advancement that is taking place in Skegness.
Quite 12 months ago the.opening night was fixed, and it does appear quite a coincident that Lady Serena Lumley, the daughter of Shegness’s ground land-lord, and Lady Mary Cambridge should be present. It is hoped the presence of the distinguished ladies will be a happy omen for the prosperity of the Tower Theatre. A special feature is the entrances and the shrubberies placed in front.
