Skegness Waterway to re-open for 2010 season
SKEGNESS Waterway should be operational again for the 2010 summer season.
Skegness Water Taxi
East Lindsey District Council and Teen Spirit have agreed a three year lease that will see the Waterway, which runs from Tower Espanade to North Parade, operate as a Water Taxi.
Teen Spirit is excited about this new venture: “We know the people of Skegness think the Waterway is important and we saw this as an opportunity to re-open the attraction and provide another great facility for those visiting Skegness. We are working hard to ensure we can open at the beginning of the 2010 season.”
Teen Spirit also operates other attractions in the town, including The Tower Arcade, The Tower Cinema, Summertime Amusements and The Beachside Tavern. Teen Spirit is looking forward to working with the Council and restoring the Waterway back to its former glory.
In addition to the Water Taxi ride there will also be another special feature added for the season. A Water Walker, a clear inflatable ball that people can stand in and run on the surface of the water.
The District Council was forced to stop operating the Waterway itself in 2007 after the Maritime and Coastguard Agency introduced a new licence for boat operators.
Portfolio Holder for Finance, which includes lease agreements, Councillor Colin Davie, is pleased: “It has been disappointing that we’ve not been able to lease the Waterway sooner but I am delighted Teen Spirit has agreed to re-open it from this season. It is important for the town that this attraction continues to operate whilst we re-evaluate our plans for the redevelopment of the Southern Foreshore following the recession.”
