New Town Hall Algitha Road
First Council Meeting at the New Skegness Town Hall
The Chairman said, that before opening the business he wished to make a few remarks upon this occasion of their first meeting in the new offices. He thought they might congratulate themselves on the move they bad made, and had got premises more adapted for the carrying on of the business of the town. They would remember the time when it became necessary to extend their premises, and application was made to Mr. Jones, who was, however, unable to give their accommodation. The question was considered. Should they build ? But since there was other expense to be met in connection with the water works, the roads, and the destructor, it was thought best to take premises under reasonable conditions, with a lease of three years and an optional renewal for seven years more. He hoped they might do their business there for many years to come, and that they would meet, as they did to-day to do the best they could for the welfare of the town (applause).
Conn. Dutton moved a vote of thanks to Conn. Shelley, on behalf of the Council, for the clock he had presented to them for the Council Chamber.
Coun. Carter seconded, and the motion was carried with enthusiasm.
Conn. Shelley thanked the Council briefly, for the motion they had just passed.

Skegness Town Hall at the junction of Algitha Road and Roman Bank
New Skegness Town Hall
Skegness Urban District Council held its first meeting in the new Council building in Algitha Road yesterday. The offices, both in their outward appearance, and interior arrangement are such as any town may have reason to be proud of. Whatever may be said of formalism, nevertheless appearances go a long way and a properly arranged and equipped building enhances the dignity of any assembly, particularly that of a municipal body.
The building has a handsome exterior appearance. The entrance hall is spacious, and, on the ground floor are the respective offices of the Surveyor and Rate Collector. On the first floor is a Committee-room, the office of the Clerks to the Council, and the Council Chamber. The table at which the Councillors sit is of a horseshoe form, and across the two extremities of the ” horseshoe ” is another table at right angles, with the seats of the chairman, vice-chairman, clerk, medical officer and surveyor. This disposition of the Councillors’ and Officers’ seats is such as is adopted by nearly every corporation or town council. There is also a press-table provided. The fittings of the Council Chamber and of the other offices are handsome, but by no means ostentatious. There is cloak-room and all other necessary accommodation, and quarters are also provided for the caretaker. Skeguess Urban District Council now sits amid surroundings fitted to its mportance as the governing body of a progressive town.
We trust that the meetings of our local Commons may continue to prove as fruitful in the interests and advancement of Skegness and its future as they have done.
