Jolly Fisherman Painting Goes Missing
Where has Jolly Gone?
QUESTIONS have been raised about a Jolly Fisherman painting missing from the mayor’s parlour at Skegness Town Council.
Coun Andy Fletcher referred to a fixed assets list published by the council which stated the 1928 painting, received as a gift in 1996, was still an asset of the council.
Speaking at a council meeting, he said: “It is saying it is there when we all know it is not.”
It emerged the council still paid to insure the painting, worth £10,000, even though it was no longer in its possession.
Town clerk Mr Crawshaw said: “Until such a time as it is determined it does not belong to us it will be insured because it has to be.
“It is insured as ours because it still belongs to us.”
Coun Fletcher argued if its still did belong to them it should be insured at its present location and not in the mayor’s parlour.
After the meeting town clerk Alan Crawshaw could not shed any light on where the painting had gone or if it would be returned to the council.

So where DID the Jolly Fisherman go? It’s certainly hung in the Mayor’s Parlour today! Strange – perhaps all will be revealled during our next trawls of the old local newspapers!

give me a call sometime Angela and I’ll tell you what happened.
