Alarming Carriage Accident
ALARMING CARRIAGE ACCIDENT.
Lady’s Narrow Escape.
An alarming carriage accident occurred at Skegness, shortly after noon, on Friday last.
Hildred’s Hotel ‘bus was standing in front of a house in Lumley Terrace. The driver had occasion to leave the ‘bus to attend to some luggage when the horse started off in the direction of the railway station. It turned round into the carriage stand there, and would, in the opinion of some eyewitnesses, have come to a standstill there had it not been frightened by the attempts that were made to stop it. It turned round, however, and the ‘bus collided with one of the upright posts that protect the footway. This frightened the horse still more, and, as a result of its struggles, the ‘bus turned over, and the two front wheels broke away, leaving the body of the vehicle behind.
The horse then galloped back to Hildred’s Hotel with the shafts and the two wheels behind. A lady was in the ‘bus at the time. It was feared, at first, that she might have been severely hurt, but, after being assisted out, and into the railway refreshment rooms, she was fortunately found to have r suffered no more injury than a severe shaking with a very natural fright.
