Winter Gardens Skegness

1909 saw the Skegness Council discussing the possibility of erecting a new Winter Gardens in the town. It was suggested that holidaymakers had little place to go if it rained, other than the glass shelters on the seafront, and this new building would be the answer to this problem.

The newspaper article covering this story appears to suggest the Pleasure Gardens as an appropriate place for the new Winter Gardens, but this was not stated outright.

As yet, I’m unsure if the plan eventually came to fruition. Certainly no such building exists in Skegness today, but one can’t discount the possibility of it being erected and later demolished.

The image below shows the design of the proposed building. The newspaper does not credit the designer, but drawings in the same year were credited to Ernest G Wyles, Architect, Skegness, Lincolnshire.

I would appreciate any information about this building, but failing that, we will have to wait until I perchance on further news coverage on this story.
