Miss Canning's Dance School

skegness_dance_schoolTHIS photo, which shows a Skegness dance school of almost 90 years  ago, appeared in a 1976 Skegness  newspaper.

Known as Miss Canning’s dancing classes, Saturday sessions were held in the Central Hall on Roman Bank which had been built by Mr John Canning, Miss Canning’s father, some years before.
The late Miss Canning is standing in the top right-hand corner of the picture, while her pianist, Miss Cary, is at the opposite end of the back row. The photograph, taken about 1921/22, shows many still well-known Skegness people, including Mrs P. Burrows (nee Berry),
Mrs V. Taylor (nee Phillips), Mrs M. Parker (nee McClatchie), Mr Don Cary, Mr Frank Sykes, Mr Horace Dexter, and on the front row, fifth from left, Councillor. Joe Tonglet sitting next to his sister.
