Mishap at Bellamy's Bottle Works
GAS ENGINE MISHAP, MIRACULOUS ESCAPE.
Last Wednesday afternoon, at Messrs. Bellamy’s bottling works in High-street, Skegness, they were adjusting the bearings, etc. of the gas engine. The fly-wheel had been removed for this purpose, and, to try the adjustments, a handle was affixed to the shaft. By some mischance, when the shaft was turned by means of the handle there was a single explosion. It was enough, however, to violently fling the handle off, which, in its flight, unfortunately struck both the manager, Mr. Galton,
and a boy named Goude. The rremarkable part of it was that it struck bothof them in the same place, on the nose. The injuries, though painful, were, luckily, not very serious. Dr. Sale attended promptly, and both are to be congratulated that nothing worse happened.

Skegness born, Danny Brooks, tells us that there was a Bellamy Bros pop factory on Alexander Road in 1933, and also one called Apollo’s on Roman Bank, situated just north of Salt’s Fish and Chip Shop.
