Jolly Fisherman Car Mascot
The well-known figure of the “Jolly Fisherman” which has played such a large part in promoting the popularity and prosperity of Skegness has been utilised as a motor car mascot by Mr. T. Gordon Williams, whose display of the familiar personage on the radiator of his car this past week-end attracted a great amount of interested attention from residents and visitors alike.
The utilisation of the Fisherman in this connection is Mr. Williams’ idea, and a Sheffield firm has manufactured several of the figures in silvered bronze, with pipe, sou-wester and neckerchief complete.
The figure can also be had mounted on a small ebony pedestal for use as an ornament for the mantel or sideboard, or a paper-weight, etc. We understand that Mr. Williams purposes forwarding one of the “mascots” to the Earl of Scarbrough and another to the M.P. for the Division, the hope being that these gentlemen will put the figure to the same purpose as that first stated and thus provide at one and the same time a distinct ornament to their cars and at the same time thus assist to advertise our resort.
The figures are being turned out at a very reasonable price and we believe that some enterprising tradesmen in the town will get in stocks of them, for which a ready sale should be forthcoming amongst owners of cars and motor-cycles and also numerous visitors who would welcome such a pleasing little memento of “Dear old Skeggy.”
