"Hitler" Called in Skegness Court

1938

“HITLER” CALLED IN COURT
MAGISTRATES CLERK’S SLIP OF THE TONGUE.
AFTERMATH OF THE CRISIS ?
Solicitors, pressmen, and members of he public looked up in astonishment at the Skegness Petty Sessional Court yesterday, when the Clerk to the Skegness magistrates (Mr. W. C. Howard) called “Hitler!” in a loud voice.
Blushing in spite of his sixty years, the Clerk hastily explained to the Justices that he had meant to call Littler, the manager of the Seacroft Hotel, who had given notice of his intention to apply for a special order of exemption on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 20th, for a wedding breakfast.
By a curious coincidence Mr. Littler’s friends invariably call him “Hitler” and when Mr. Howard called the name of the Fuhrer, Mr. Littler at once stepped into the witness box with a smiling face!
