Skegness Weather Forecast
Skegness Weather Station
The weather station in Skegness is situated on North Parade, as shown in the picture above with the Suncastle in the background.

Brian Porter (pictured below) has been the weatherman for Skegness for the past twenty years.
Local coastguard, Bernard O’Reilly was weatherman for the twenty years prior to this.
I seem to recall having read somewhere that local historian, Winston Kime was also the Skegness weatherman, perhaps in the 1950s.

Mr Porter explains that he takes five readings twice daily. An early morning reading around 7.45am and an evening reading around 4pm.
In the next picture, Mr Porter is gathering maximum and minimum temperature data which he records in a log book.

Here is a photo of the thermometer inside the weather box. Mr Porter tells us that mercury is used as opposed to the usual alcohol in household thermometers.
Next, the amount of rainfall reading is taken.
A few meters away from the weather box is a rain collector. This comprises of a metal ‘funnel’ with a hole in the centre.

Inside, the rainwater is collected in a glass bottle which Mr Porter removes.

Collected rain is then transfered to a calibrated glass test tube and a reading taken in millimeters.
