No Need for Foreign Road Title says Earl

EARL’S VIEW ON ROAD NAME.
“BOULEVARD A FOREIGN TITLE.”
COMMITTEE DECISIONS.
The suggestion made by Coun. Wheatley, that the recently-constructed thoroughfare between Roman Bank and North Parade should be styled a “boulevard” will not be adopted if a recommendation made by the Roads and Buildings Committee, consequent upon a view expressed by Lord Scarbrough is endorsed by the Council.
When the Committee met on June 11th, the Clerk reported that the majority of owners of property adjoining Castleton Road had no objection to its being named “Castleton Boulevard.”Mr B. H. Foster, on behalf of the Earl of Scarbrough wrote:
“His Lordship does not see any good reason for substituting a foreign title for a road, but if the concensus of opinion is in favour of the change his Lordship would not object.”
The Committee resolved that the thoroughfare be designated “Castleton Road.”
The next move—if any—lies with Coun. Wheatley.
Those present at the meeting were Couns. Crawshaw (in the chair), Capon, Davis, Hannam, Holmes, Davey, Wheatley and Wood.

Cllr Wheatley must have eventually got his own way because, as we know, the road in question WAS eventually named Castleton Boulevard!
