World War Relics Trail
The east coast of England was a popular point of attack from the German forces in World War 2, being just across the North Sea from Denmark. There are many examples of evidence of defense to be found on this stretch of coast, particularly around the Skegness area. I hope to report on more of these, adding them to this collection, in due course!
The tables below contain the collection of relics shown in each video.
The hyperlinked images lead to more information and photographs on the relic, and of course the video link.
The relics are plotted on the maps as far as possible.
Map A shows Skegness and surrounding villages on the east coast.
Map B shows the National Nature Reserve at Gibraltar Point.
Map C shows the coastal area between Skegness and Gibraltar Point.
(There is a pink plot on map B which is the site of a gun turret. This will be investigated by the Skegness Video Show shortly)
As afore stated, this area of coast is abundant in military defense relics. However, it must be noted that what seems to be the highest concentration of them is at Gibraltar Point. There seems to have been strong defense south of Skegness, but notably diffused defense on the coastal area north of Skegness.
Consulting map A, concentrating defense at Gibraltar Point would have had an advantage over areas to the south, as the Point juts out into the sea. But it is difficult to hypothesize any military advantage over coastal areas due north.
Video 1
Roan Curtis is the presenter in this film. He appraises the relics completely unrehearsed and without cues or script. When discussing the gun turret, he inadvertently said it wouldn’t have been manned by civilians instead of soldiers. I trust you will forgive this indiscretion.

No more information is available on the Ammunition Stores as yet. There are at least three in the Skegness area and these will be investigated shortly. |
