Body Washed Ashore WW2

Body Washed Ashore
Shot Through the Head
Certified Due to Enemy Action

The body of an unknown man was washed ashore in the early hours of a morning in March, 1941.
There was evidence of death having resulted from a bullet wound through the head. As the body was utterly devoid of clothing except for a leather belt round his waist there was no means of identifying whether it was friend or foe. The deceased had two rings on his hands.

Dr Menzies, Medical Officer of Health for the area, has decided that death was due to war operations and no inquest was therefore held.

The body was buried in St Clement’s Churchyard, Skegness at the expense of the local authority. The deceased was a well-built man, over six feet tall.
The body was washed up at Jackson’s Corner, Ingoldmells.
