Bells in Church Belfry Tour

Bells in the Belfry from a Bat’s Eye View

Of all the video shoots we have done over the last five years, this hike up into the belfry of Burgh le Marsh Church, near Skegness, has got to have been one of the most exciting adventures for us! We were truly honoured to have been allowed access to shoot this video.

Our trip up into the belfry in 2005 was arranged for us by local bell-ringer, June Fossey; and the whole team of campanologists were very co-operative and helpful.

The most dangerous part of the shoot – climbing through the hatch and balancing on a narrow ledge to film the tenor bell from a distance of only one meter – I admit, was executed by my husband, Paul Gooch, as I was too scared to shoot it myself.

We filmed the full peal of the bells through a viewing window high up in the belfry, and the deafening noise caused the whole tower to rock – the sensation was absolutely incredible!
