Return Jolly Fisherman Glass to Skegness Bid

A BID to return some of Skegness’ history to the town has failed.
Mayor Coun Gary Ellis called on businesses, individuals and organisations to pledge money to buy an original pre-1920s plate glass window at an auction.
The window is believed to have come from the town’s railway station and features the letters GNR and an etching of the Jolly Fisherman.
Coun John Byford went to the auction in Sheffield but came home empty handed. The window had a reserve price of £800 and finally sold, to somebody from Matlock, Derbyshire, for £1,450.
Coun Byford had to drop out of the bidding when it reached £1,400.
He said: “I was sad that I didn’t get it. Had my bid been successful, this object would have come back to Skegness where it belongs.”
Coun Ellis was also disappointed about the loss of part of original Skegness but he was philosophical.
He said: “Never mind you win some you lose some.”
