Illegal trailer advert removed with support from local community

ILLEGAL adverts at the roadside will not be tolerated in East Lindsey.  That’s the message from the District Council as it paints over another large trailer advertisement parked in a field by the crossroads on the A158 at Sausthorpe, near Horncastle.

The Council took the decision to cover up the latest large advert after the owner failed to comply with a planning notice asking him to remove it from the site.

The Council took a similar course of action with a trailer in a field just outside Burgh Le Marsh back in 2008.

Within days of the trailer advert appearing in Sausthorpe, the local community had presented a petition to the District Council asking for it to be removed because they felt it was a blight on their village.

The Council is now vigorously pursuing the owner to remove the trailer from the field. Failure to do so will result in further enforcement action being taken. This could result in the trailer being removed by the Council will all costs being passed onto the owner if he does not take the required action.

The Council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning Enforcement, Councillor Neil Cooper, said that trailer adverts require Planning Permission: “I’m pleased we’ve been able to respond to the wishes of the community in Sausthorpe.  We have tried hard to resolve the issues with the owner and that enforcement was only taken after all avenues had been exhausted.  We will always rigorously pursue those who breach national planning regulations because it is important that all development is properly controlled.”

The Council’s Planning Department can offer guidance and advice to developers considering an application within the District.  For more information on this contact the planning team on 01507 601111 and ask for the Duty Planning Officer.
