Stagecoach Skegness Grosvenor Road Bus Depot Closure

Last Buses at the Depot

The Stagecoach Bus Depot on Grosvenor Road, Skegness closed it shutters for the very last time today as the company moved lock stock and barrel to new premises.

Stagecoach began uprooting from its present site, which is in a residential area of Skegness, on the 5th and 6th of September, 2009, to be fully operational from their new location on the Industrial Estate, near the ELDC shed, on Burgh Road on the 7th September.

The depot in Grosvenor Road was established in 1926, initially by Skegness Motor Services who were subsequently taken over by Lincolnshire Road Car and thence Stagecoach.

The Drummond Road premises was actually a bus station and not a depot, and was closed in 1978.

The 5,000 square feet empty building and Yard on Grosvenor Road is now up for sale by Montague Evans estate agent.

We secured for Skegness, video footage of the last Stagecoach buses returning to the Grosvenor Road depot, along with the last bus washes and mechanical checks, which will be of historical interest in the future.

A big ‘thank you’ to our friends who have helped us record this important piece of Skegness History.
