Should the Library Supervise Children on Computers?
In 2002, an anonymous letter was sent to a local newspaper complaining that Lincolnshire libraries are not supervising children who use their computers.
The concern came after the debate over chatrooms following the Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman murders.
The letter claimed that children as young as seven had access to chatlines on the People’s Network and there was no supervision at all.
A spokesperson for the library said that they were aware of children using the computers, but were not allowed to check what they were doing because it defied confidentiality.
The spokesperson drew attention to the signs in the library which stated that young children should be supervised whether they were using computers or not.
Do YOU think it should be the library’s duty to supervise children on their computers? Or should the parents be responsible for supervising their children?
