Brake Problems Cause Robin Hood Train Delay from Skegness

Small Fire Discovered

East Midlands Trains officially launched its new Robin Hood Line – a direct train service from Mansfield Woodhouse to Skegness on Sunday but the return journey was hit by brake problems — leaving passengers stranded beside the track for more than three hours.

One local woman, who asked not to be named, said her elderly parents from Mansfield Woodhouse had not returned home until 4.30am on Monday morning, more than seven hours after they should have arrived back.

A spokesman for East Midlands Trains said: “The 18.07 service from Skegness to Nottingham was disrupted at around 19.50 on Sunday when the driver reported smoke coming from a set of brakes.

“A small fire was immediately extinguished, causing no harm to any passengers or staff travelling on the train. The incident did, however, have a knock on effect and caused severe delays to the service involved as well as to a later service.

“Both services terminated at Boston where passengers were assisted with their onward journeys as quickly as possible. In most cases this was done by taxi due to a lack of available replacement buses.

“We would like to offer our sincere apologies to passengers who were affected by this disruption and are now investigating the cause of this problem.”

The spokesman said the company would cover the cost of any taxis booked to help passengers complete their journeys.

TRAIN bosses have apologised to local passengers who faced severe delays on a special train service returning from Skegness on Sunday.
