Stranded Sky Ride Fireman Rescued by Fire Brigade
With cheeks as red as his fire engine, a Yorkshire fireman had to be rescued by the Skegness Fire Brigade after being left stranded when a Skegness amusement park ride broke down in 1975.
Local firemen used a Snorkel to get Yorkshire fireman, Arthur Troughton, his wife and their eight-year-old daughter back down to terra-firma.
But despite being left high and dry for 20 minutes in the cold wind, Arthur saw the funny side of it – a fireman being rescued by firemen.
The only thing that worried Mr and Mrs Troughton was that their daughter, Tracy was getting cold, but apart from that they were in good spirits.
Mr John Hurt, manager of the Sky Ride on North Parade, Skegness, said that a small mechanical fault had caused the ride to stop and it was quickly fixed. He called the Fire Brigade just in case it took a long time.
