Skegness Roman Bank Pottery

A new pottery firm opened on Roman Bank, Skegness at the end of 1976. The workforce consisted of two men, Mr Harold Slight who was 70, and Mr Roger Perkins who was aged 33 at the time.
Harold lent a hand on a part time basis, preparing the clay ready for putting into the moulds and supervising the “drying-out” process.
Roger did the painting and glazing.
Though Harold, who originally came from Kent, had done pottery work before, Roger was new to the art.
To celebrate Skegness Centenary year (1977) the pair churned out Jolly Fisherman figures.
Have YOU got one of these Jolly Fisherman figures or any other pieces produced in the Roman Bank Pottery? Do you remember the Roman Bank Pottery? Tell us in the comments box below.
