Emergency on Tower Esplanade! Bruno the landau horse was having difficulty with his shoes!
Local blacksmith, John Nuttall was summoned immediately.
Quite a crowd gathered round to see Bruno being refitted with new horseshoes.
John, who owns the award winning Nuttall’s beach donkeys in Skegness, began his work by removing the old horseshoes and paring away excess hoof material.
He then prepared the new horseshoe by firstly heating it up in his mobile forge to soften the metal and hammering it into shape.
John then began fixing the horseshoe onto the horse.
Bystanders were amazed by the smoke emitted as the hot metal was fitted.
John assured everyone that this didn’t hurt the horse as there are no nerves in the hoof, rather like cutting our own fingernails.
More paring of excess hoof to ensure an exact fit.
John finishes off by filing the hoof and horseshoe to make it smooth.
The blacksmith’s job complete, Bruno continues his work pulling the landau on the sea front.
