WW2 Pillbox Gibraltar Point Skegness

This was a tiny construction and was much different to the previous ones.
It was much overgrown but we could estimate it to be about six by six feet in dimension.
There would have been possibly only two soldiers stationed inside. Only three sides were accessible.

Roan Curtis conjectured that the pillbox had been penetrated and blown outwards.
Peering into the slit at the front (eastern aspect), one could see three other similar slits but no apparent entrance!

We went to photograph the rear (western side) of the building (left photo).
There was a descent which we jumped down into.

This shot is taken through the slit in the western side and shows the slit opposite.
Roan has again previously excavated around this area and found the entrance to the pillbox to be some yards away to the right as you are looking at the first photograph, underground. The entrance leads through a tunnel which comes up through the floor of the pillbox. This is not apparent today as the sand has accumulated in the pillbox over the years, covering the way in.
Roan and his brother, Steve, recalled there being an ammunition dump to the rear of the relic. Although the area was dense in thorned shrubs, they went off to search for it. On this occasion, though, the search was in vain. Perhaps the next visit may prove more fruitful!
