What would you do to improve your community?
GROUPS in East Lindsey are being encouraged to come up with creative ideas to make their community more sustainable in the future.
The Government, through the Sustainable Communities Act, is running a programme to for local organisations to be able to take forward their creative ideas which are inhibited by current national rules and regulations – it is looking for ideas about what needs to change in order to make communities more sustainable.
The programme is being promoted by Local Works, a partnership of more than 90 national organisations and full details and example ideas can be obtained through their website at www.localworks.org
All project ideas must be submitted via local authorities and as such local ideas will need to gain the support of East Lindsey District Council before the submission deadline of July 31, 2009. Further rounds of the programme are expected, but no dates have yet been issued by the government.
The Local Strategic Partnership will be advising the District Council on which ideas that come forward should be considered for support and submission to government.
Chairman of the Local Strategic Partnership, Councillor Doreen Stephenson, explained: “This is a great opportunity for communities to put forward proposals to Government for changes to rules and regulations that will enable new ways of working to be introduced. I would encourage community groups to make the most of this and send through their ideas so we can give the Government some good strong suggestions.”
The Government requires that all ideas put forward either promote the local economy, encourage environmental protection or encourage social inclusion and democratic participation.
To submit your idea, e-mail idea@e-lindsey.gov.uk or write to Idea, Local Strategic Partnership, Tedder Hall, Manby Park, Louth, Lincolnshire, LN11 8UP.
