Video Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway Skegness
History was made in Skegness this bank holiday weekend when the Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway was back on the rails again 25 years after it was feared lost forever.
The railway was first opened in Humberston near Cleethorpes in 1960 when it transported holidaymakers to the beach and a holiday camp.
The engines and carriages were brought out of storage 15 years ago and moved to the Water Leisure Park. Since then a small team of determined enthusiasts, using only basic equipment and their own personal finances, have restored the historic carriages and locomotives and re-built just under a mile of track.
The line, which is the only true narrow gauge railway on the East Coast with land available for the line to be extended and developed in due course, was opened to the public for the first time yesterday.
To mark the occasion of its opening, those who worked on the original line from 1960 to 1985 were invited back for a free ride, and we interviewed one of these men in our video below.
The new fare will be £1 for all and under 3s free, and the railway is situated at the Water Leisure Park, Skegness. To find out opening times for the new live call (01754) 899400 or visit www.lincolnshire-coast-light-railway.co.uk
