Battle on the Beach
Struggle to See the Sea at Skegness
The sunshine and favourable temperatures at Easter Bank Holiday brought people flocking to Skegness. The beach was busy and the donkeys made their first appearance of the season. But, from our temporary perch on the sandunes overlooking Tower Esplanade and the beach, we witnessed several people struggling to transverse the sand which has recently blown onto Tower Esplanade.
The elderly lady in our picture below struggled to transverse the sand whilst a female relative dragged her wheelchair behind.
Eventually the battle became too much for her and she retreated to her wheelchair. The whole ensemble had to be dragged inch by painful inch to the sea by another female helper.
Another bank holiday passed, Whitsuntide, and still the sand was not cleared away.
Spring Bank Holiday is approaching in a few days time and STILL the inherent sand blocks the pathway to the sea!
Workers from East Linsdey District Council were battling yesterday to clear the sand from the main promenade, but say they are fighting a losing battle because the sand blows back almost as soon as it’s cleared.
Let’s hope that some effort is made soon to ensure that every visitor to Skegness is able to See the Sea!

The Sand on the Path to Lagoon walk is more than just a disgrace it is a matter of Health and Safety. What if an Ambulance needed to get down to the Seas edge to deal with Heart attack or serious injury.
Earlier this week The Crew of the Life boat were forced to clear some of the sand from the path to enable them to turn the Lifeboat, work that should have been done by the council. I rang Doreen Stevenson from ELDC because i was informed this came under her control. I have not yet had any reply from her.
I had a message left on the answer phone today from ELDC saying that the pathway to Lagoon Walk would be cleared over the Springbank holiday weekend
