Skegness litterer guilty of throwing rubbish from car window

A LITTERER from Skegness has been fined at Skegness Magistrates Court for throwing rubbish from the window of the car he was a passenger in.

East Lindsey District Council took Andrew Seward of 69 Roman Bank, Skegness, to court after its Enforcement Officer witnessed him on January 26, 2009, throwing what looked like sandwich wrapping from the parked car he was in on Grovensor Road.

After failing to pay the £75 fixed penalty notice issued for the offence, the Council took him to court where he was fined £100, with £150 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

Enforcement Team Leader, Duncan Hollingworth, said littering would not be tolerated and anyone caught would be fined: “East Lindsey is a beautiful District and no-one should be allowed to spoil that by irresponsibility disposing of their waste.  We will always take firm action against anyone caught littering because it’s unsightly and very costly to the taxpayer to clear it up.”

The prosecution comes just a few days after East Lindsey District Council launched a campaign to crack down on smoking related litter in the town.
