Scouts Raft Race Skegness Boating Lake

Local news story date 14th July 2006.

Scouts from Skegness and surrounding villages built their own rafts and raced them on the Skegness boating lake this evening.

The Clock towers above, knowingly, having witnessed over a hundred years of fun in Skegness.

The boat races went first. All went well except for one boat which was going round in circles. The scoutmaster was shouting encouragingly from terra firma for the competitors to row in unison, and they eventually maneuvered their boat back into the dock.

The raft race commenced at 8.30pm.

The homemade rafts were launched into the water.

This one looked quite impressive…

…until the scouts climbed aboard.

The raft capsized and the sailors ended up IN the boating lake!

Rafts mounted…

… 3, 2, 1 and they’re off!

Pandemonium broke out – almost as many kids in the water as on the rafts!

This boy below lost his oar and had to jump in the lake to retrieve it!

The Skegness raft was the first home, but were unfortunately disqualified.

The Spilsby scouts rowed with expertise…

… and came in to officially win the race!

Just one of many exciting fun days in Skegness!
