Old Skegnessian Pop Williams

Eighty three-year-old Pop Williams, of 29 Sandbeck Avenue, believes that youngsters like him should always be ready to give the old uns a helping hand.
So ever since last summer he has been wielding his hammer on the Four Seasons’ fruit boxes behind their shop in Lumley Road to turn them into firewood for old age pensioners.
He’s there every day, rain or shine, between 10.30 am and 2.30 pm giving away the empty boxes, breaking them up and tying them into bundles where necessary.
They have been in such big demand during the recent coal shortage that Pop doubts if his supplies will last the winter out.
