Horse Crashes into House

A serious accident occured on Monday afternoon, when a horse of Mr Fred Rye, in coming down the slope on Lifeboat Avenue was unable to hold its feet on the tar macadam and instead of turning into Drummond Road went through the fence and wall of Mr DeMond’s residence.
The horse was severely cut on the shoulder, and the shafts of the pantechnion was broken.

  1. Hi – whow I used to work for Mr.Rye at Butlins Riding School back in the 60’s.. I was only about 13 and we took out about 60 horses on the roads … Most of the riders came from Butlins – young lads who thought they would impress their girlfriends and just how they could ride (and with KISS ME QUICK hats on) Girls in skirts and stilleto heels……….

Sorry it was great to see them all get chucked off into the dykes and then they had to re-address their attitudes…….all the horses/ponies knew and “levelled” these Bravado’s

It could never happen today due to H & S and insurance but what a wonderful experience.
