Fire Destroys Dot's Club Drummond Road
Fire closes club
Bar damaged in Skegness blaze
QUICK thinking on the part of residents in Drummond Road, Skegness, early on Monday morning probably saved a whole block of shops from being wiped out by fire.
The fire broke out in the early hours at Dot’s Club in Drummond Road. Miss E. Woods, who lives just opposite, was the first to notice it and she roused another neighbour, Mr. Terrance Wattam, who immediately called the brigade.
The firemen were soon on the scene and they stopped the fire from spreading. The bar at Dot’s Club, however, was extensively damaged and the club will be closed indefinitely.
The outbreak was believed to have started in the fire grate after the licensees, Mr. and Mrs. R. Evans, had left. The fire burnt a hole through the floor and the wooden surrounds were all charred.
SHOP DAMAGED
Also damaged extensively was the recently vacated handicraft shop underneath Dot’s Club.
Said Mr. A. Moncrief, Skegness’s station officer, after the fire : ” This could have been very serious if it had not been spotted in time.”
This was the third fire to have broken out in the Drummond Road area in less than two weeks.

The photo above shows a section of the damage when Dots Club, Drummond Road, Skegness, was destroyed by fire in the early hours of Monday morning. The surround of the fireplace (left) dropped through the floor into the recently vacated handicraft shop below.

As yet we have no idea whereabouts on Drummond Road Dot’s Club was situated. Can YOU help?

I used to live in Trafalgar Avenue, I remember an old gent telling me about a fire at 127 Drummond Road that is where the Tennyson Club used to be. Perhaps it is the same place?
Thanks for that info, Daz. I’ll look at no 127 when I’m next up Drummond Road. I do know there was a fire at Rainford Terrace in the 1930s, which is on the same block as the former RTK discount store used to be.
