Welcome to Skegness Seashells Sign

Welcome to Skegness

Letter to the Editor of a local newspaper:

Sir, – When returning to camp from short leave recently at Skegness, I noticed that the shells forming the words “Welcome to Skegness” just outside the station had got so misplaced that it was impossible to read them.

I don’t know who it was that first put them there, but the idea was a good one, and I hope they will be restored to their original condition, as doubtless they have been read by thousands of visitors to our pretty little town, and left a lasting impression on their minds.

Then again, what about when our dear boys who are spared return from the danger, toil and discomfort of this awful war? They will probably be the first sign of welcome they will see, but they will certainly not be the last.
Yours faithfully
