Skegness Doctor Called to Great War
Dr Sweeten Called Up
Source: Skegness 1915
Some months ago Dr Benjamin Sweeten, the well-known local medical practitioner, and a member of the Skegness Urban District Council, patriotically volunteered for service in the Royal Army Medical Corps, should his services be required. We learn that a few days ago the doctor received a summons to attend the military headquarters at York, and the outcome is that he joins the service at Colcherster tomorrow (Thursday).
We further learn that he is unable to leave a locum tenems in charge of his practice, owing to the fact that they are practically impossible to get owing to the war; and that Dr Stanley Wallace has generously offered to look after the doctor’s practice for him during his temporary absence. Dr Wallace will thus be responsible for the whole of Dr Sweeten’s appointments, including his panel and club patients, and will also, on his behalf, attend his private patients until the time of his return.
Dr Bernard has also kindly intimated that he will be pleased to extend a similar service to any of Dr Sweeten’s patients who may desire him to do so until the return home of the latter practitioner.
Dr Sweeten will still retain his household in Lumley Avenue, and any enquiries or messages will receive immediate attention.
We feel sure that all local people will heartily commend Dr Sweeten’s patriotism, and that his large number of patients of all classes will fall in with his arrangements with Drs. Wallace and Bernard until such time as their patriotic medico returns from his labours among the gallant men of our Service.
