New Miniature Steam Train

A new steam miniature train is in operation on the Skegness Railway.

The new attraction is the “Commodore Vanderbilt” – a 4-6-4 Pacific minature steam locomotive which was especially built for Skegness by Ernest Dove of Nottingham.

The train proved to be more popular with adults, as 72% of the 75,000 passengers it carried since Easter, were grown-ups.

1954 local news story

Update: 24th June, 2009 – It has been pointed out to us by Peter Scott, Miniature Railway Historian, that the miniature railway in Skegness actually came into service at Easter, 1954, and not 1953 as we originally stated. We have amended the date accordingly.

Peter also informs us that the locomotive was sold to and operated by Denham Till of Skegness.
