First Batch of War Wounded Arrive in Skegness
After several rumours of wounded soldiers due to arrive at Skegness by certain trains – which drew large crowds to the railway station – the first batch of these gallant defenders of the Empire arrived on Monday last. the batch numbered 18, all of whom are British soldiers who took part in the battle of Mons. The majority are rapidly approaching the convalescent stage. They are being cared for under the auspices of the local branch of the British Red Cross Society, the temporary “hospital” being the Derby Children’s Home in Scarbrough Avenue. Other beds are being rapidly prepared, and further batches up to the number of about 200 men are expected to arrive in due course.
