Bizarre Gale Story
GALE AT SKEGNESS
A HUMOROUS INCIDENT
Source: Skegness Herald 1912
A strong south-westerly gale prevailed at Skegness on Easter Monday and Tuesday, and greatly interfered with the open air enjoyment of visitors.
A humorous incident is reported from the Grosvenor-road district. It appears that a hen house, the property of Mrs. Shaw, High-street, wherein was a hen ” sitting ” a clutch of eggs, was lifted bodily away by the force of the elements. The hen, quite unruffled, was afterwards seen sitting patiently on the eggs in the open.
A hoarding was also blown down in Grosvenor-road, and a window was smashed at the Roman Catholic Convent, a portion of the glass being cut as cleanly as though taken out with a glazier’s diamond.
Part of the Cricket Ground fence was blown down.
