Steam Laundry Fire
Steam Laundry Fire
Source: Skegness Herald 1898
There has been a fire at the steam laundry but fortunately the fire was extinguished before any damage was done.
It seemed that the flue in the boiler house is of earthenware pipe and these broke with the heat and allowed the woodwork of the roof to catch fire.
The fire engine and brigade were immediately sent for and in the meantime every effort was made to extinguish the flames.
Fortunately these efforts proved successful and the services of the brigade were not required.
The roof of the boiler house was the only portion of the building which suffered, and the damage done probably amounted to about £20.

I am interested in the history of the fire brigade in Skegness and wonder if you have any further information on this. Can you let me have a password to access some of your fire brigade stories.
Many thanks
