Parade Hotel Storm Damage Gusts sends iron pinnacle crashing 50 feet

Extract from the Skegness Standard:
Parade Hotel Skegness damaged in gusts of wind

‘Part of a cast iron pinnacle on the roof of the Parade Hotel, Skegness, crashed 50 feet to the ground on Friday morning. It shattered in the forecourt and pieces flew across the road.
No one was injured and none of the pieces damaged the cars travelling along Grand Parade.
Proprietor Mr Charles Salt called in the fire brigade who went on the roof and established that the remainder of the pinnacle was safe.
Firemen estimated that the piece of pinnacle which broke off in a high wind weighed between 20 and 30 pounds.
A few people were about but, luckily, there was no one in the immediate vicinity. And the forecourt, which is used as a car park, was empty.
