New Design Concrete Houses
SPILSBY R.D.C.’s NEW CONCRETE HOUSES
The only pair of concrete cottages in the Spilsby District have just been completed
at Partney near Spilsby, and they part of the housing scheme being carried out by the Spilsby Rural District Council.
Standing near the houses are Mr. Jno. E. Bolt, Surveyor to the Spilsby R.D.C., architect of the houses, and Mr. A. W. Webb, of the firm of Messers Baker and Webb, Spilsby, the builders of them.
The houses stand in a very pleasant position and are of attractive design and thoroughly convenient and comfortable. Made of concrete on the post and panel system, and imitating half timber work, they are of the semi-bungalow type, the pair costing £845. The Council have fixed the rent for each house at 6s. 6d. per week.
The total floor area is 942 square feet, including the out-buildings, and attached to each house is a spacious garden. On the ground floor the accommodation consists of a living-room, scullery and larder with two bedrooms, and there is one large bedroom, measuring 14ft. 6in. by 15ft, on the first floor.
There is hardly a foot of wasted space, and special spouting has been arranged to collect rain water. There is a pump inside the house, and the outbuildings consist of a W.C., coal-house and wash-house, with copper.
In the opinion of our representative, who looked over the houses a few days ago, they are the best accommodation yet provided in the neighbourhood for working people.
