FATAL ACCIDENT TO A CHILD
On Thursday evening last week a sad accident occurred to a child three and a half years old, named Thomas Henry Hatfield, residing with his parents in High-street.
He was at play with another child in Pollard’s-yard. He had climbed a low wall from which he fell, pulling the coping stone with him. The stone fell on his head severely fracturing his skull, and rendering him unconscious.
Medical aid was at once obtained, but Dr. Bernard’s assistance was of no avail, as the injuries inflicted were of so serious a nature.
The poor little fellow remained unconscious up to the time of his death, which took place about two o’clock on Friday morning.
In the afternoon of that day an inquest was held on the body by Dr. Clegg, of Boston, coroner, for the district. Mr. S. Brearey was foreman of the jury.
After hearing the evidence a verdict of “Accidental Death” was returned, with a recommendation from the jury that the wall and place where the accident occurred be fenced round, as it was a dangerous place.
