Lawrence Wright to buy Water Tower?
Wishes to save it for the Nation
Remarkable Acoustic Properties
Will Mr Lawrence Wright [photo] buy the Water Tower?
This question arises as a result of the famous composer and music publisher’s recent visit to Skegness, during which he voiced the intention of approaching the Skegness Council with a view to acquiring the structure.
The tower, now known as “the leaning tower of Skegness”, has already been the subject of much controversy owing to its habit of rising and falling according to the amount of water in the tank, the state of the subsoil, the rate of exchange, the price of petrol, and other important factors, and now the discovery has been made that it possesses remarkable acoustic properties.
This discovery was mad by Mr Lawrence Wright when he was conducted over the tower in company with a well-known variety artist and a representative of the “Skegness News”.
Pausing in the basement to sing a note, the famous composer was surprised by the astounding rage of the echoes.
“Ah,Ah,Ah,” he boomed, “Ee,Ee,Ee,” he trilled, and there resounded through the tall shell choral effects.
“It is remarkable”, said Mr Wright, on leaving. “It offers wonderful possibilities. Were the Gramophone Company to utilise it for HMV [His Master's Voice] records, it would be possible to record a full choir from a single vocalist. To composers of choral works it would be invaluable, for by singing one part only they could get the effect of the piece when rendered by a full choir. Such a wonderful building ought to be saved for the nation”.
However, the attention of the present Council seems to be directed towards saving it for Skegness.

Robert Curtis told us:
The old water tower in skegness, Burgh Road, yes, was a land mark coming into Skeg also served as a TV relay mast before Belmont transmeter was built, was a good old building that survived the war but sadly not the wacky councils we get round here.
