Ex-Servicemen buy Jolly Fisherman Poster

Welcome home ‘Jolly’
Welcome home! There were cheers of joy at the Ex-Servicemen’s Club in Skegness last week when the original copy of London and Eastern Railways’ poster depicting the Jolly Fisherman was officially unveiled. A £1,600 bid, made by the club president, Mr Archie Shaw, brought the poster back to the resort.
Pictured are members of the club during the organisation’s 20s night at which the poster was unwrapped by the president, Mr Herbert Epton, third from right.

The small plate underneath the poster reads “300 folded, 50 rolled”. These words are apparently on the reverse of the photo. I am unsure what they mean! There was no date.
There were concerns for the safety of this poster during the
August 16th 2007
We learned afterwards that the original poster was indeed rescued.









Third from the right is my dad, Archie Shaw, next to him (left) is my wife Sarah. I am the good looking one on the front row (second left) with the white tie.
