Derbyshire Childrens Home Skegness

THE Derby and Derbyshire Children’s Home pictured in the late 1970s (top picture) at the corner of Roman Bank and Scarbrough Avenue, Skegness, was only half its present size when it was known as the “Seaside and Rescue Home” (bottom picture) in 1905.

It has since had a twin house built on it to give a symmetrical effect, and the open area behind it has been built up. There are fewer chimneys and the flagpole is smaller but the noticeboard is still in the same position.

The house father, Mr Jim Stuart, who provided the photos, feels sure that the wooden fence, due to be replaced by a wall in the 70s, is the original one though a close examination suggests differences.

The young tree, still with a protective paling around it, is now considerably taller than the house.
