An account of the Butilins Gaiety Theatre being demolished and a photograph of the theatre in its hey-day.

It’s curtains for the famous Gaiety Theatre at Butlin’s Funcoast World, Skegness, as the demolition team moved in this week to dismantle the building – once the centre of showbiz glamour.
The theatre’s stage played host to a wealth of talent and a number of top names stars in its glory years.
Now it is to make way for a new development as part of Funcoast World’s £40 million face lift.

GAIETY THEATRE:my father used to work on security at BUTLINS in skegness so used to take us to the GAIETY THEATRE numrous times, the buiding inside was huge and felt as if you were at the london paladium, dad took me all in the dressing rooms and back stage in the winter as he had to check for fire or break ins,it seemed so erie dark and spooky unlike in the summer when it comes to life i met a few artists .hughie green, lenny the lion, ringo starr, des o conner, ted rayand a few others.it was a grand old building and many artists have made a name for themselves through the gaiety theatre and was surprised they let them knock it down as i thought it was a listed building.
