FIFTY men are working on the £40,000 beer garden in Bottons Amusement Arcade, Skegness, to get the attraction completed on schedule. An official opening ceremony is planned for 25th May.
The garden has been built above the main entrance to the park, and workmen are now decorating the interior.

A Bavarian mountain mural will be put on one wall, and the building, measuring 90ft by 90ft has glass frontage on two sides giving a view of the amusements and the beach.
Seating for 400 to 500 people will be provided, and the customers will be entertained by a Bavarian band in traditional costume. Waitresses in Tyrolean outfits will serve the food and drinks.
The garden features a long bar and a picturesque “Swiss chalet” stage. Pink and orange fluorescent tubes will be used for lighting effects, and rubber trees and a variety of plants will be placed round the perimeter of the room.
Subject to planning permission, a neon sign, a beer mug with the words “Bier Garten,” will be erected over the entrance to the garden.

  1. THE BIER GARTEN at Bottons amusment park I used to frequent at one time as I worked on the fair ground, mainly on the big wheel. The artists I can remember and got to knew at that time were the THE CARRIBEAN STEEL BAND and a local group called TONIC which members were made up of three men and two girls. Sadly one of the girls has since passed away but two of the group are still living in Skegness. Shirley worked in a book shop down Lumley Road and Dave who worked as entertainments manager at Richmond caravan park for many years. The Carribean band left after a couple of seasons to other venues, but one of the group members, Sonny, met a local girl and had a daughter between them, Joanne who still resides in Skegness. But The Bier garden then was a great place for family fun and dancing, but later on in years it ceased and became a snooker hall.

  2. yep another good place thats gone, wished we had places like that to go to, would also bring folk in from other towns,as i think we are in need of new places,i think the coucil should get rid of some of the amusements far to many
